2010 - 2011 Year in Review
In 2010-2011, the Wakefield Bands moved into its second decade and strived to maintain its lofty standards. At Music Performance Adjudication, the Concert Band, performed music selected from Level IV. Their selections were "As Torrents in Summer" by Edward Elgar and "Eiger" by James Swearingen. Their march was "Valley Forge" by Karl King. The Wind Ensemble performed music selected from Level VI. Their selections were "The Epic of Gilgamesh" by Robert Rumbelow and "Culloden, Mvt. III" by Julie Giroux. Their march was "Funeral March for Rikard Nordraak" by Edvard Grieg. Both bands performed very well at both concerts and both earned Superior ratings.
In May, the percussion studio, under the direction of Matthew Nadolny, performed its annual percussion studio concert which included performances by studio members and the Winter Percussion ensemble. The Wind Ensemble had the distinct honor of sharing a concert with the NC Wind Orchestra in which they performed the first half and the NCWO performed the second half. Two nights later, the Concert Band and Wind Ensemble performed the annual WHS Bands Spring Concert to great acclaim.
