Message from Mr. Potter - Welcome and Schedule Update

Message from Mr. Potter - Welcome and Schedule Update
As we have now officially began the 2010-2011 band year I wanted to send a brief email to welcome you and let you know how excited we are for the adventure ahead.  We have put together a talented and dedicated staff to work with your students.  Our design team is thrilled with the progress thus far with the development of our production, Ladder of Life.  I look forward to the opportunity to work with you, our parents, thoughout the year in the many different capacities that help to support our students.  After a year in which we celebrated our first decade together, this year will bring several initiatives to make sure we are on the correct path as we take our first steps in the 2nd decade.  I look forward to sharing them with you as we progress.  A few notes and date changes I want to go ahead and make you aware of.

  1. The rehearsal on August 12 has been canceled to allow our students the opportunity to attend the Drum Corps International Championships viewing in the movie theatres as we had several students expressing a desire to do so.
  2. As a result of item #1, we need to add an hour to the guard rehearsal on August 9.  That rehearsal will now be 9am-5pm.
  3. The rehearsal on August 19 will be 6-9 instead of 5-9.  That afternoon, Scott Lang, a national leadership and motivational speaker will be doing a seminar at Sanderson.  Mr. Lang specializes in working with music and band students.  Several of our students will be taking part in that session.  More to come on that as we get further into band camp next week.
  4. The home football game scheduled for 10/1 will now be on Thursday evening September 30.
  5. As a result of item #4, the rehearsal on Friday October 1 will now be 2 - 7pm instead of 2-5pm.
  6. The home football game on October 29 will now be on Thursday evening October 28.
  7. As a result of item #6, the rehearsal on Friday October 29 will now be 2:30 - 7pm instead of 3-6pm.
  8. We will attend the following NC shows: September 25-Central Cabarrus HS (Concord NC), October 16-Fuquay-Varina HS, October 30-Cary HS
  9. The hornline students were informed of a new item today that they need to please have before Monday morning.  Each hornline student should have a 1/2" PVC tube with a ball valve.  They cost about $3 and can be found at Lowes/Home Depot.  They are white PVC with a red valve.  We will use these as part of our breathing exercises.
Thank you for your support.  Please let me know if you have any questions, comments or concerns as we move through the year.
