In our second year, the concert band has continued to grow
and develop. We performed three concerts that involved music ranging
from Level III to Level VI. We also made our second trip to concert band festival. Our performance in
the 2002 CDBA High School Concert Band Festival took place on March 13th
at Asheboro High School. We programmed a Level IV/V performance. The
music selected was “Cajun Folk Songs” by Frank Ticheli and
“Dedicatory Overture” by Clifton Williams. Our march was
“Gallant Marines” by Karl King. In our preparation, Mr.
Jesse Holton, retired band director, and Mr. Brian Doyle, Assistant
Director of Bands at UNC-Chapel Hill each came and worked with our
band. At festival, our band performed well, showing much growth and
improvement. We received a rating of EXCELLENT. We are very pleased with the direction of our program and
look forward to its continued growth.
