In 2006-2007, the Wakefield Bands continued to achieve at a high level. At Festival the Concert Band performed music selected from Level IV. Their selections were "Were You There" by Fred Allen and "Among the Clouds" by Brian Balmages. Their march was "Gallant Marines" by Karl King. The Wind Ensemble performed music selected from Level VI. Their selections were "Symphony No. 3" (Movements II, III, and IV) by Vittorio Giannini and "Heroes, Lost and Fallen" by David Gillingham. Their march was "Marche Hongroise" from La Damnation de Faust by Hector Berlioz. The Wind Ensemble had the opportunity to work with Dr. Larry Marks from UNC-Charlotte as they prepared for festival. At our pre-festival concert we were fortunate enough to receive comments from Mr. Tom Jenner and Mr. Jeffrey Fuchs and Dr. Michael Votta, both of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Both bands performed very well. The Wind Ensemble received a Unanimous Superior rating for the 4th straight year. The Concert Band received an Excellent Rating coming up just one subcaption letter short of its fourth straight superior rating.

In January, the Marching Band performed the third WHS Bands Concerto Concert in which we raise funds for the Band Booster Scholarship. In it we featured students soloists Taylor Fogg, John Winstead and Cessa Pilarinos, Daniel Hammond and Jonathan Hammond and professional tubist mr. Steven Truckenbrod. In addition, the band program performed a set of three concerts (brass, percussion, woodwinds) of chamber music for the Wakefield PTSA Festival of the Arts in May prior to an outstanding Spring Concert full of varied literature.
