Impressions of a Storm
Impressions of a Storm-The Music of Robert W. Smith, Larry Clark and John Williams. Our 2001
Marching Band show is a musical and visual exploration of a storm. In the first movement, we use the soothing B
section of Robert W. Smith's Into the Storm to depict the calm before the storm. As the movement closes, the
audience can hear the thunder clashes and the dissonance of the storm forming in the distance. Larry Clark's
Conflict brings the storm into our area and ushers in the first wave of destruction. Once the first wave has passed
us by, we are issued a reprieve. The lush harmonies of John Williams' Cadillac of the Skies are depictive of the
warming calm of the eye of the storm. As with any storm, the eye is followed by a second wave of impact. The
intensity of rhythm that Robert W. Smith created in Into the Storm leads us through the final moments and to the
sunshine at the end of the darkness.
